PEACEFUL COMMUNICATION ACCORDING TO BUDDHIST PRINCIPLES

Abstract

The Peaceful communication according to Buddhist principles focuses on both sender and receiver to communicate on mutual understanding basis for the interests of both parties, personal and public. Moreover, it has to fulfill the underneath mental needs. When those needs have been fulfilled, there will be an extinguishment of disturbance, vehemence and anxiety resulting in the states of empathetic congruence, tranquility, meritoriousness, or non-confliction. As a result, the peace can occur from the level of personal (internal peace) until the social level (external peace).The skills necessary for peaceful communication according to Buddhist principles consist of 5 skills: 1) open listening skills, 2) thoughtful thinking skills, 3) expressing opinions, 4) reviewing skills, and 5) Social cohesion skills.
