GOOD GOVERNANCE AND NATIONAL SECURITY

Abstract

This academic article presents the relationship between good governance and national security. Good governance serves as a fundamental foundation for effective and legitimate public administration by ensuring that the exercise of state power is based on the rule of law, integrity, transparency, and public accountability. These principles help prevent arbitrary exercise of power, reduce inequality, and peacefully mitigate social conflicts, thereby contributing to long-term national security. Transparency and accountability also play crucial roles in building trust between the state and citizens. When citizens have access to information, understand decision-making processes, and can fairly scrutinize the exercise of state power, confidence in the governance system and social stability are strengthened. Furthermore, public participation in policymaking, monitoring, and addressing public issues enhances the state’s capacity to prevent and respond to political, economic, social, and technological threats. Political governance strengthens democratic stability by ensuring the legitimate and publicly accepted exercise of state power, while economic governance reduces economic vulnerability, promotes equitable resource allocation, and enhances economic security as a foundation of national security. Administrative governance contributes to reducing corruption and improving the efficiency and responsiveness of public administration. Contemporary national security is therefore not limited to the military dimension but encompasses economic, social, and political dimensions. Good governance plays a vital role in safeguarding national independence and sovereignty, enhancing citizens’ quality of life, and promoting collaboration among the public sector, private sector, and civil society. Such collaboration enables integrated, sustainable, and adaptive security policies capable of responding effectively to long-term societal changes.
