The Study of Similarities and Differences Between Fashion and Architecture in Modern Period Through Skin and Bone

Abstract

In this paper, the study of packaging is called “skin”, and that of structure is called “bone” of fashion and architecture in English. Fashion and architecture have coexisted for a long time, and their contributions are numerous from the past to the present, which are used to meet the needs of various human factors. This study adopted the method of comparing the works of modern fashion and architecture. In fashion, skin compares to different fabrics used to cover a body. Fashion design has great social influence and conveys the social status of the wearer. Fashionable bone is used to combine several pieces of yarns bound together into a set and uses physical materials to decorate so that the clothing becomes beautiful and novel. Building skin is similar to the wall of a building, which is used to divide the use and residence inside the building and to protect human beings day and night, while the bone part is used to bear the weight and transfer the weight from the roof to the ground such as beams and roof structures. Among them, the skin of fashion and architecture has the process or method of strengthening fabric, which adds aesthetic feeling to works such as folding, pleating, and stitching. Moreover, the skin adds aesthetic feeling to architecture, for example, the use of facades provides sun shading and incorporates design elements serving to give aesthetic feeling to the architecture’s exterior appearance. The designs both from fashion and architectural designers are in line with the inspiration and suitability of the environment. Through the research of this paper, the similarities and differences between fashion and architecture in skin and bone are discussed.
