Promoting English Vocabulary in Early Childhood Kindergarten 3 Using English Song Activities

Abstract
The research aimed to (1) investigate the vocabulary retention abilities in English of early
childhood children who participated in English language song activities, (2) develop English language
song activities to meet the criterion of 80/80 effectiveness, and (3) compare the vocabulary retention
abilities in English of early childhood before and after participating in these activities. The sample
consisted of 22 boys and girls, aged between 5 and 6 years, who were studying in kindergarten 3 at
Kokkhor Kokpho School, Na Klang District, Nongbualamphu. The sample was selected through simple
random sampling from one classroom out of four. The research tools included five English-language
song activity plans that have an impact on English vocabulary retention and a vocabulary retention test.
Data analysis was conducted using E1/E2 analysis, means, standard deviations, and dependent t tests.
The findings revealed that (1) the vocabulary retention abilities of children who participated in English
language song activities had an overall average score of 9.36 (SD = 0.49). The activity with the highest
average score was "The 5th Fun Activity of the Week" at 9.95 (SD = 0.21), followed by "The 5th Fun
Activity of the Month" at 9.90 (SD = 0.29), and the lowest was "The 1st Fun Activity of the Week" at 8.68
(SD = 0.48). (2) English language song activities were effective, with a score of 77.82/80.30. (3) Vocabulary
retention abilities in English were significantly higher after participating in the activities, with a statistical
significance level of 0.05.
