The Development of Short Story Writing Skills by Using Exercises for High School Students

Abstract

The research aimed to (1) develop short story writing skills by using exercises for high school students that were effective and met the standard of 80/80; and (2) compare academic scores between before and afterutilizing short story writing exercises. The participants were 39 high school students who enrolled in semesters 1 and 2 of the year 2021 at the Kasetsomboonwittayakom School in the Kasetsomboon District of Chaiyaphum. The instruments employed in this study were (1) the pre-and post-study tests ( 2) the package of short story writing exercises. The percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test were used to examine the data.
The results revealed that (1) The effectiveness of the short story writing exercises for high school students was 82.99/87.69, which was higher than the standard of 80/80. (2) The mean scores for the pretest was 9.64, the standard deviation was 1.78, and for the posttest was 26.31, the standard deviation was 2.02, indicating that the short story writing exercises could strengthen the academic scores to be higher than the pretest at the statistical level of .01.
