The Study of Character Behaviors and Reflection on Beliefs Found in the Novel “Krongkam” Written by Chulamanee

Abstract

This research was qualitative research using a documentary research method. “The research objectives were to (1) study character’s behavior in the novel “Krongkam” written by Chulamanee, (2) analyze the use of writing styles in the novel “Krongkam” written by Chulamanee, and (3) analyze the reflection of belief in the novel “Krongkam” written by Chulamanee” The researchers studied and analyzed the behavior of the main characters in the novel “Krongkam” written by Chulamanee. Research instruments comprised three analysis tables regarding character behaviours, writing styles, and the reflection on beliefs found in the novel.
The findings showed that considering the rule of five precepts, negative character behaviours were most frequently found in the novel regarding making false speech. These behaviours related to the fourth precept. In accordance with writing styles, a narrative writing was most frequently used in the novel to describe situations, settings, and ideas. Additionally, considering the reflection on ideas regarding superstitions most frequently appeared in the novel.
