Factors Related to Stress of High School Students at Ramkhamhaeng University Demonstration School, Bangkok

Abstract

The objectives of this research were (1) to study the predisposing factors (personal, family and environmental factors), coping with stress of high school students at Ramkhamhaeng University Demonstration School (RUDS), and (2) to study the relationship between the predisposing factors, coping with stress of high school students at RUDS. The sample consisted of 440 high school students enrolled at RUDS. The research instrument was a questionnaire covered contents related to student stress with reliability of 0.943. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, i.e., percent, mean and standard deviation. Also, Chi-square test and Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient method were used to test the correlation at the significant level of .05.
The results of this study showed that: Most of students were female (53.20%) studying in grade II (34.10%) of science-math study plan (34.20%). The students' parents lived together 73.00%. The family financial status was fair and 60.70 % of savings. The relationships between students and family, friends and teachers were relatively good with percentage of 88.20%, 94.80% and 79.50%, respectively. Most of the respondents had a relatively low level of stress coping, 61.60%, and had moderate stress at 63.00%. The study plan of students, and sex were not related to stress. Whereas, class level, family marital status, family financial status, including relationships between students and family, friends and teachers, and coping were significantly correlated with stress (p < .05).
