The Development of Reading Comprehension Skills Using the Four-Step Ladder Technique for Mathayomsuksa 4 Students at Hat Yai Ratprachanukroh School, Songkhla Province

Abstract
The research aimed to compare the reading comprehension skills of Mathayomsuksa 4 students before and after implementing the Four-Step Ladder Technique. The target group consisted of 37 students from Hat Yai Ratprachanukroh School, Songkhla Province. The research instruments included an 8-hour lesson plan utilizing the Four-Step Ladder Technique for teaching reading comprehension and a 10-item multiple-choice reading comprehension test administered before and after the learning intervention. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, relative improvement scores, and the paired samples t-test.
The research results indicated that the average pre-test score before implementing the Four-Step Ladder Technique was 4.19 with a standard deviation of 1.68. The average post-test score after the learning intervention was 8.59 with a standard deviation of 1.36. A comparison of the mean scores before and after the intervention showed that the post-test scores were significantly higher than the pre-test scores at the .05 level of statistical significance.
