Abstract

This article presents a study of the relationships between space, architecture and soundscape in the experience of faith in a historical context by investigating the space and architecture of Wat Phumin as a case study. The space, architecture and soundscape create a state of calmness mentally and physically for visitors before entering the chapel, which is considered the climax of perception, which is arranged orderly and collaboratively. Two factors create the experience of faith, including; The first is perception; by contrasting atmospheres along the path in juxtaposition, visitors would be guided to realize the opposition between worldly and spiritual states, and the second factor means; Cosmological symbols in architectural elements are managed to make visitors recognize the journey to the sacred space.
