Literary Works of Prince Thammathibet : A New Study on the Historical Background of Composition

This academic article presents new insights into the literary worksof Prince Thammathibet, specifically regarding their historical contextand chronology of composition. The study reveals that the Prince’sworks were composed on different occasions and periods, as follows: Composed during his tenure as Krom Khun Sena Phithak : These include Kap He Ruea Kap Ho Khlong Praphat Than Thongdaeng, and Kap HoKhlong Nirat Than Sok. Composed during his monkhood and laterrevised as Front Palace Prince (Krom Phraratchawang Bowon Sathan Mongkhon): These include Nanthopananthasut Kham Luang and Phra Malai Kham Luang. Composed while serving as Front Palace Prince: These include Bot He Kaki, Bot He Sangwat, Bot He Khruan, andthree versions of Phleng Yao. Furthermore, the findings indicate that: Prince Thammathibet adapted content from his earlier compositions into his newer works. Kap He Ruea (the Boat Songs) reflects thePrince’s personal emotions and reflections, rather than being intendedas official royal galley songs or songs for public festivities.
